The Roll Gate Lifting System project included providing engineering services for a replacement drive system for a 300,000 pound roll gate. The drive system includes redundant brake motors driving bevel gear box inputs into a parallel shaft gear reducer. The gear reducer output drives an open gear set driving a chain sprocket. The chain lifts the roll gate from one end. The project included engineering design and stress analysis of the gear train and the existing support machine frame. The project deliverables also included providing Value Engineering in order to support the project specifications and goals with lower cost solutions. Our responsibilities included field measurement, engineering design, and field hold-point inspections, start-up and commissioning.
The roll gates are now ready for another 50 years of service.
